Scuttlebutt Poll: |
2007 Sailors of the Year
(January 2-5, 2008) Scuttlebutt used the short list of 2007 US Rolex Yachtsman and Yachtswoman of the Year nominees*, and challenged readers to select the sailors that they felt best embodied the sport as it pertained to them. This was a challenging request as the American sailors with the best record, or winning the more prestigious events, might not have been their choice. How does an America's Cup helm compare to a Pan American Games helm or a Team Racing Worlds team? Like we said, this wasn't easy.
We suggested that the criteria gauge the sailor's sportsmanship, varied accomplishments, and value to their team (if applicable). Each sailors most prominent accomplishment is listed, but additional background information can be viewed for either the male candidates or the female candidates. Here are the winners for 2007:
* Note: Scuttlebutt combined the members of the Team Race Worlds team for the vote below, whereas they were nominated indivdually for the US Rolex award.
