Scuttlebutt Photos of the Week

Here is a random assortment of photos from the sport.

Dennis Palmer, Fleet Captain at Shilshole Bay Yacht Club, sent this photo by Jo Anne Richardson from the TransPuget Race, a mid-distance race hosted by SBYC. Looking at the three boats, we have titled this photo "Diversity'. The event was a benefit for Sound Experience aboard the Schooner Adventuress, raising more than $1300 to support their educational programs.

Scuttlebutt was sent a bunch of images from the Optimist West Coast Championship, but this one stood out above the others because it: 1) Showed the winner (Romain Screve), 2) Showed how young Opti champs are, and 3) Showed that beanies are at times needed in SoCal. Photo by Peter Abraham.

Ready or not, here are the boats that'll be used for the 34th America's Cup in 2013.

The 2010 Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Regatta at Larchmont Yacht Club on September 11-12, 2010 was the final NOOD event of the season, and may have been the final event for a lot of people for the season. But is this anyway to end a season? Photo by Maureen C. Koeppel.

A perfect night on Long Island Sound with Dragonfly, Colin McGranahan's J/130.

This photo and info came from Bill, whose email address is ‘sailorbill’. We liked it, plus it traveled long distance. Said Bill, “Racing in light winds in the Marlborough Sounds of New Zealand, I was sailing my 411 Beneteau (doing very nicely, thank you) when this bloody hotshot Beneteau First 37 slipped past me to bloody leeward of all things. Lovely day on the water made up for it though.”

This is sooooo New England! The Herreshoff Classic Regatta is an annual event that brings together Classic and Herreshoff boat owners for a weekend of racing and social events in Bristol, RI. Did anybody say 'clambake'? Photo by George Bekris

Dude, Where's My Laser? It isn't easy to translate the energy and action of a moment into a photo, but we think photographer Carter Kramer succeeded in this one. Here's the note he shared with Scuttlebutt: "I sail out of American Yacht Club and I'm 16. This summer instead of doing JSA of LIS, I worked for Although I haven't made a penny doing it, I've taken some pretty sweet shots and I thought it would be good to share them with you. I hope you enjoy them!" We did, and posted them all on Scuttlebutt's Facebook page.
