The Grand Traverse Yacht Club in Traverse City, MI caught fire around eleven-thirty Wednesday night, and was deemed a total loss by Thursday morning. Said 'butthead Eric Lind. "It is truly a sad day with 42 years of memories up in smoke. Lots of tears were shed in the parking lot today, but there were lots of smiles as well. We have an extremely strong membership with lots of talent and the plans were already being talked about this morning as the sun came up and the fire was still burning. We are all excited about the prospects of rebuilding, but we will have to wait until the fire investigators are through and the insurance company renders a verdict. The community outpouring has already begun with offers of space and other resources. The good news is that nobody was in the building and that no boats were damaged. Our first race is in a couple of weeks and we will maintain a full schedule this Summer including the Interlake Nationals in August, our Annual Melges 24 Invite, the Laser Invite, and numerous other great events."
