What first began in the early 1970's as a fun race among a few friends from Hyannis, MA to Nantucket Island, the Figawi Race has now grown into a major spring opener for the Northeast sailing season.
210 boats "competed" in 2004 over Memorial Day weekend, and you have to love a Notice of Race that needs to include the following section on conduct: "The boat owner or skipper will be responsible for the conduct of the crew offshore and onshore, the Committee reserves the right to reject any boat, its skipper and crew from this race or future races in the event of serious breach of conduct. Reasonable safety mandates no water balloons, water fights, or fire crackers."
Plus, any race that attracts Senator Edward Kennedy has to be a party. Here are some of images of the good senator racing his Concordia 50, Mya.
