(May 31, 2004) Grey skies, rain that varied from drizzle to torrential and a brisk 20 knot wind were the conditions the 37 competitors taking part in The Transat enjoyed as the historical single-handed race the 'wrong way' across the North Atlantic got underway at 1400BST today from Plymouth Sound, UK to Boston, USA.
The fleet of four classes started simultaneously: the ORMA 60 and 50 multihulls, and the IMOCA Open 60 and 50 monohulls. Enjoy the galleries below of the IMOCA Open 60 monohulls and ORMA 60 multihulls shortly after the start.
